Dental hygienists play an important role in maintaining the health of the teeth, gums, and supporting tissues. At South Florida Dental Care, hygiene visits are an opportunity to remove accumulated plaque and calculus, monitor changes in oral health, and identify findings that may require evaluation by one of our dentists.
The appropriate type and frequency of dental hygiene care depends on the individual patient. Some patients need routine preventive cleanings, while those with a history of gum disease may require more extensive treatment or a different maintenance schedule. Our hygienists and dentists coordinate these recommendations based on clinical findings rather than applying the same schedule to everyone.
Hygiene appointments also provide time to discuss brushing, flossing, dental products, sensitivity, bleeding gums, and other home-care concerns. When signs of gum disease are present, patients can learn more about our approach to periodontal health.
